Dryden Community Garden
The Dryden Community Garden held it's first meeting in November of 2006. At that time 16 p
otential partners were at the table. To date the Community Garden has utilized $25,000 in cash contributions from the community and the region, and the project has been supported by in-kind donations or items and time valued at $83,620 (from over 60 individuals and businesses).
The committee has been contacted by a number of groups throughout Northwestern Ontario to assist and offer advice in the development of other multi-purpose gardens. The Dryden Community Garden has also taken a leadership role in piloting the brand Northwest Strong as a symbol of community development.
The plan for the garden continues to evolve as various groups contribute to the project and have their needs incorporated into the plan. The committee looks forward to hosting multiple users at the venue including cultural programming, children's programming, Farmers' Markets, Horticultural Society, Fall Harvest and Earth Day celebrations.
It is important to acknowledge the significant contribution and leadership of the City of Dryden by providing the lot which is home to the community garden as well as support to ensure the vision for a brighter community became a reality. It has truly been a community effort and a privilege to be a part of this project.
...we've got what it takes!
